tips to write college papers

  • begin with “buckle your seatbelts, motherfuckers, because in eight short pages i am going to learn u a thing that i only learned myself about two hours ago, so sit down, shut up, and enjoy the experience of my 4-am-redbull-induced-self-hatred-fuelled-writing-extravaganza”
  • erase when finished with the paper

Jace leaned forward, his palms flat on the ground. “I’m a warrior,” he said. “I was brought up as a warrior. I didn’t have toys, I had weapons. I slept with a wooden sword until I was five. My first books were medieval demonologies with illuminated pages. The first songs I learned were chants to banish demons. I know what brings me peace, and it isn’t sandy beaches or chirping birds in rainforests. I want a weapon in my hand and a strategy to win.”

My actual last scene, which I feel is important to say, is I’m in the hospital bed. Michael is leaning over saying, ‘I love you, Deb.’ He’s done it two or three times. When I knew it was going to be the last take, I sat up, took my tubes out and I whispered in his ear, ‘Say. It. Like. You. Mean. It.’ I knew it was the last thing. It was the one and only thing Deb ever wanted to hear from him. I wanted him to know that I was really listening. It was important.

She had been too busy trying to transform herself into the kind of person who doesn’t need anything from anybody, a wall of pure bricks. In the meantime, she had forgotten that when people walk into walls of bricks, they get hurt.
